Trichy or Tiruchy/Tiruchchirappalli (திருச்சி) is a city located 300 kilometers south of chennai,
located in the banks of Kaveri. The most recogonizable landmark in
Trichy is the 85m tall Rock Fort right in the middle of the business
district, which used to be a military fort during the Pre-British era.
Rock Fort has Vinayakar temple (Ucchi Pillayar) at the top. Very close
to Rock Fort is the St. Joseph church, which aparently was aparently a
replica of the cathedral in Lourdes and not too far from it is a
mosque. Communal problems has never been an issue in Trichy - different
religeous communities have been living in harmony for years.
Rockfort, as seen from Kaveri bridge. In the above picture, what
appears to sand banks of the river is actually the river itself. The
amount of vegetation in the sand is testament to the fact that, for
years there had been no water in Kaveri. Finally, after years of
drought, last year (2005) there was a good monsoon season.
Teppakulam (Temple pond) near Rockfort.

The lights of the street shops "Burma bazaar"can be seen adjacent to tepakulam wall.
