This instruction set works for wine2004-06-15 version. 1) make a clean .wine ( if you already have a .wine re-name it) just do wine notepad and a new one will be made for you after you re-name the one you already have. 2) in /.wine/drive_c/windows or where ever your windows directory is make a "Desktop" & "Icons" directory. 3) make a back up of your .wine config file, I just make config.bak myself. 4) put the config that i'm sending in its place. 5) mount your office 2000 CD and then cd to /mnt/cdrom 6) wine setup.exe 7) Go to Customize your install and choose not to install the Office Assistant.. Install everything else in a normal install. You might not want to install Outlook and Access too. 8) Make sure you install IE5, even if you don't plan to use it.. There are many reasons for this. Many applications require a browser to work correctly. Since they can't detect mozilla, they won't function if IE is not present. 9) You will recieve about 23 or 24 error messages "warning 1909" Could not create Shortcut. don't worry about these errors. Just say OK and proceed 10) You will recieve a error about not being able to read "WINDOWS.HLP" dont worry about this error. 11) Time to Re-Boot windows, just say OK and then in your terminal do wine wineboot 12) After the re-boot windows will start the second stage of the install, you will recieve a error that "DllRegister Server" could not find a function in hhctrl.ocx don't worry about this error. 13) Next you will revieve a "1911" error Could not register type library for VEN2232.OLB dont worry about this error. select "IGNORE" 14) Now Office 2000 should be installed 15) DON'T RUN OFFICE at this time! 16) get a copy of dcom98.exe from Microsoft. 17) in the config change ole32 & oleaut32 from = "native, builtin" to = "native" 18) install dcom98.exe at this time 19) Now the Office 2000 install is complete, to test your install lets start with something easy cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Windows\ Media\ Player then wine mplayer2.exe if you want to play DivX movies in WMP install the Divx502bundle and choose not to install there player. 20) IE5 -- cd to ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Internet\ Explorer "wine iexplore.exe" The connection Wizard will start up you will want to select "Cancel" and then select "do not show the internet connection wizard in the future." If you want to use IE with other apps set it as the default browser.. If you say NO other windows apps will not work corretly as they can't call on mozilla or other browsers on your Linux system. At this time IE5 should start, as soon as it starts click the stop loading button. and go to Tools/Internet Options and then go to Advanced and *UN-CHECK* enable install on demand. You can still install software with the IE installer but this feature will lock IE up at this time if its enabled. Also : when your finished there will be about a 5 to 10 second lag when you say OK to exit the Internet Options. Now IE shoul'd work just fine 21) Now to test Office cd to ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Microsoft\ Office/Office and then select word, excel and powerpoint . I've never tried to register my copy with Microsoft so I always say NO.
